no spark no start

Hi i am a new member and i have recently swapped out my 3sgte engine with another.( Turns out the number two rod wasnt happy staying on the crank and ended up crackin my block ha clasic) anyway i got the new engine in and got everything hooked up. Now when i go to start there is no spark. I have checked the power going to the coil with a ohm meter and i have power there for a few seconds then it dissappears i am thinking that it is not recieving a crank signal and shutting off the power to the coil so as to not burn it out. If you have any ideas please reply i am getting quite fed up with this problem and just want it fixed

On my '87 Corolla, I had a problem wherein the hall effect sensor in the distributor failed. It could be what you're experiencing.

It may be different from the location in the 3sgte.

Here's a good writeup in general on troubleshooting them; the procedure should portable to various makes and models. http://www.wellsmfgcorp.com/pdf/Counterpoint3_1.pdf

Canada

i have already some what checked that by hooking up my old distributer too it and then just seeing if there was spark' to a ground but still no spark i think i might go through the whole ignition system and check everything but in the back off my head i feel like it could be just a wiring issue or an ecu issue.

Have you tested coil and ignitor?

I have checked the power going to the coil and ignitor and that acts the same but i was going to check the coil tommorow just found out how to do it and the figures i needed and such. i am not to sure if you have to test the ignitor seperately from the coil or if you just test them together though. Also there is a blue plug that comes out of the haness right before it goes into the the fuse box in the engine compartment and i cant find anything to plug into it not to sure if that has anything to do with my problem though
