Australia SW20 Australian Model

Hi MR2 fans,

I recently purchased a:

1990 Toyota MR2 SW20 (I'm in Australia).
My Vin is: JT763SW2000016323 (the plate is worn, but I filled in the missing numbers using http://webspace.webring.com/people/x...70/mr2vin.html).
Engine: It's a 3S-GE (according to the vin)
Trans: Manual 5 Speed
Body: Targa Top

Now the question I have.. I'm searching for replacement parts for it. Searching on Ebay etc, but I can't find any 1990 models in USA or UK, they all begin with 1991. So I was wondering if my 1990 Aus MR2 is the same as the 1991 USA MR2?

My car didn't come with a owners manual, and I've been searchig for a hardcopy manual (but doesn't seem to exist), so I've ordered a PDF from USA but once again they start with 1991.

Does anyone know if they are the same parts?

Edit: It took me forever to find that website for the VIN, I searched millions of MR2 Vin Decoder pages but my numbers didn't match up to any of them. I had called Toyota in Australia and ordered some interior parts, asked for the vin and they found my parts easily. Now I'm just after a parts list to replace alternator etc. Obviously I can find diagrams for 1991 models etc but not 1990. So if anyone knows, please help me out.

Edit2: I did have a look at the MR2 Sticky for parts catalogue. Unfortunately my VIN number doesnt exist. I presume the Alternators are the same for a Turbo and N/A model right? and a P/S alternator would be the same as a non P/S alternator apart from the Amp difference? I want a bigger alternator but I don't have P/S (not yet anyway, planning on getting soon). Is it just more Amps alternator because of the P/S or is the actual fitting holes etc different?

I just replaced my alternator last week. What a nightmare.
Both O'Reilly's and Toyota told me the only difference between the the Alts for the A/T and M/T trans was the the A/T model had 10 more amps.
The one from O'Reilly's did not quite fit due to the belt adjuster bolt hole not lining up with the bracket slot.
Well, I had to order the OEM from Toyota, which was suppose to be for the M/T turbo model($100.00 more) and it was EXACTLY the same as the one I got from O'Reilly's. I called Toyota and we double checked using my VIN # and it was correct.
I eneded up modifying the adjuster slot in the bracket to make it work.

There's maybe a few hand fulls of 90s. They though may have a few missing such as pre wired fog light harness. Well anyways, to my knowledge there shouldn't be anything different from 90 and 91 Mr2s

The reason I'm asking the difference is because I'm looking at replacing the alternator with a more powerful alternator.

I been to the local auto shops if they could order me a better than stock alternator but they only had the 80amp ones. So I went for the ebay route and find a remanufactured one.
This one I was looking at is 160 amps. There's nothing wrong with that right? the bigger the better right?

I would simply ask the parts department of a dealership, if they could look up the part numbers for your 90 and a 91 and see if they match. Or if you feel awkward about asking the same place, call two different places But since both 90 and 91 are using the same 3sge i don't see a problem.

I've just received a response from the ebay seller regarding a 91-95 alternator he had. He said it wouldn't fit directly without modification. But he does have one for the 1990 with the same amps. USD$125 and USD$55 shipping to me.

Link for the one I enquired about. (not the one he recons will fit mine)

"Hi Ron,
this item doesn't fit 1990 toyota mr2 with 3sge
but i do have the one you need
for 1990 mr2 with 3sge 160amp
don't need modification
price is $125 plus $55 shipping and handling
with us postal priority mail
takes 4-12 business days
if you are interested I can send you paypal invoice
Thanks,
Steve"

There's no problem having 160Amp alternator is there? If it's going to cost pretty much the same for a 80Amp one.. I might aswell get the 160Amp. I do have a bit of a stereo, with a Optima D34 Yellow Top.

I had another look at the MR2 Sticky for Replacement parts (http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/)

Typed in my VIN and this time it worked!! It found my model!! Don't know why it didn't the other time :S Maybe Typo. Sorry guys.

The Toyota part is: 27060-74250 for the Alternator. Mine only comes in a 80A.

Edit: For a 1991 TOYOTA MR2 (SW20L-ACMZZA) 3SGTE the Alternators are 74180 / 741330 / 741440.
Did all North Americans get Turbo'd MR2s? I can't find diagram for a N/A

We over here in the states, don't get a 3sge as an NA we got the 2.2 5sfe as the NA supposedly for fuel economy, wished I had the 3sge though haha.

toyodiy.com use to be so awesome, use to provide diagrams and how things were assembled. then i guess Toyota found out and asked them to remove them. =/ Wish i made a copy of the diagrams.

Hey, unfortunately this new site is crap!
My VIN is JT763SW2000016323.
It doesn't work. Because this site only deals with USA & Canada MR2's.
