Why don't you just buy one with a motor in it? And why JDM? Why would you want to hassle with getting JDM parts when the USDM engines can equal or exceed the JDM engines with simple mods?
A shell will probably require alot of work and money. And who knows what you'll end up with engine wise. You'll have to take the word on the mileage of the engine and it's internal condition. You can't test it either one.
IMO, it would be better to buy a fair condition turbo model and rebuild it. There' your project and you will know exactly what 's going on with the car.
Just somethings to consider.

well if your new to the MR game, then you might want to look at buying one that has the NA motor, until you get a feel for how they drive,

also im with the previous poster, JDM isnt that much more of a big deal when it comes to the MR, i mean unless you just want some of the niffty body stuff.

plus just a thought, with the 2.2 is that the 2.0 turbo set up bolts right on and its makes for good response
