Catalytic Converter issue

I am just here to see if my information is correct on my MR2's lack of a Catalytic Converter. In most of the repair manuals of mr2's and the Catalytic Converter, my dad and I see that it is attached to the exhaust pipe just before the muffler. On my MR2 it is just a straight pipe to the muffler, would a Catalytic Converter be placed elsewhere that we cannot see or just does my MR2 not have the primary or a secondary one, or is actually there on the pipe, just me and my dad have mistaken it for something else because on layouts on the repair manuals it is different(picture will show more). I do have some pictures which I will upload shortly.

1991 MR2 Model.

End of the pipe that leads to muffler

The pipe where my dad and I are unsure if this small part at the beginning is the Catalytic Converter.

Is this turbo or N/A ?
The turbo model has a Primary Cat that comes off the turbo elbow and a secondary cat (B pipe) that is just before the muffler.

from what you have pictured there is NO catalytic converter on your car. What you have pictured in the second one is a Flex pipe that is used to make sure you don't put stress on the exhaust flanges from the torquing of the motor.

There were 2 different types of exhaust setups for stock cars here in the US. So im not exactly sure how it is there. One of them came with an extra CAT where you were talking about right before the muffler (which is either gone on your car or was never there).

However what you havnt pictured for us is is the area right after the exhaust manifold (upstream of the flex pipe) which is where there defintly should be a catalytic converter) no matter is you have a turbo or not

Hay I noted your location as being inside Japan?

I'm not up on Japanese Direct Market stuff but if that was made over 'thar it may NOT have USA market required pollution controls.

Does this puppy have opther emission devices on board? Egr,PVC, Evap etc?

Interested.

Well that was my location before I just moved to the states and I have own two MR2's this one with the pictures in Arizona and my previous one which actually had a Converter just before the exhaust muffler mainly because the model in japan that I had owned was a 1993 model. It is a 2.2L NA engine and I had expected as much that there was no Converter on the car, but wasn't entirely sure if there was a primary one elsewhere that I had not known about.
