I have a 87 mr2 and i cant get it to go over 2000 rpms before it dies. I have no idea on what to check or do to fix this problem.
I was also looking for spark plug layout from distributor and the timing that the car needs to be set at. Please any and all help will be appreciated.

IIRC 10 or 12* BTDC
spark plug wires are numbered on the cap. for starters, you can check fuel filter, fuel pressure, and check to see if you have water in the spark plug galley.

Like TechGeek said, it's on the cap.
I sense some confusion here.
Connect # 1 wire on #1 on the dist. cap and the other end on the plug in the #1 cylinder.
Connect #2 wire on #2 on the cap and the other end on the plug in the #2 cylinder .
Connect #3 wire #3 on the cap and the other end on the plug in cylinder #3.
and so on.
#1 cylinder is furthest from the transmission.
Firing order is 1-3-4-2
