I have an 85 MR2, when I turn on the headlights, rpm's drop and the car stalls without a bit of throttle. any Ideas?

Head lights are a big draw of power.
Bad battery or alternator. I would also check the headlight wirng for a bad ground, bare wire, etc.

If i keep the throttle on just alittle its fine, but without, rpm's drop to 400-500 and eventually stalls, if I'm driving and clutch in while slowing down, rpm's drop to nothing and the engine stalls.

Again, check your charging system.1st check the belt. make sure it's tight. Then the Battery, alternator , battery cables and connectors.

Mark1 NA cars have voltage regulators built into the rear of the alternator.

Your alternator may be just fine, but the regulator could be the problem.

If you take it to a rebuilders shop he could exchange the regulator without having to trash the alternator.
(cheaper)

Think recycle.
