5 gear pops out?

my bro has an 88 mr2 and just recently when every he puts it into 5th gear and presses the gas it will pop out randomly and the car will be thrown into neutral. anyone know why? or is the tranny just getting old?

Is the clutch slipping? Could need a new clutch.

could have a bent/broken synchronizer. my friends 89 4x4 does that in 1st and thats why his does it.

damn...we really didnt want to put to much into it...his car is starting to get kinda junky and we dont really want to pour another 3 or 4 hundred into it....oh well thanks guys

more than likely its the syncronizer my civic hatchback did it and in was from just pounding on it everyday and racing ever weekend....trannies just get old and worn out...my third and fifth gear popped out randomly I had to sit that and hold it in fifth whenever we went on long road trips

if it's the clutch let me know..i have a brand new mr2 turbo clutch kit that im selling..reason why is because im swapping a 3sgte engine using an mr2 tranny but i couldn't find a half shaft for it..so im just going to use my stock tranny fomr the celica and i already bought the clutch kit and can't return it..so let me know if you want it...i bought it for $280cdn...dealership price..and i will sell it for the same price....
