Collector Car Insurance

I'm wondering if anyone has collector car ins on their mr2, I got a quote from Grundy; but I only know of 1 other company that deals exclusively in collector cars. So I'm wondering if you know any others, or if you have it what do you pay?

I know the assesed value will greately influence the rate, as will many other things. But I got a quote, with an assesed value of $15k for $283/year. I have a clean driving record; and my Mr2 is a 91 Turbo

Sounds like a good price. I guess the insurance co. does their own appraisal? I thought a car had to be a minimum of 20 yrs old?
May I ask your age?

so I just got off the phone with my agent, he said they also offer collectors car insurance. The cost per year isnt my main concern, though if its cheaper, so much the better.
I failed emissions yet again and there is no cheap fix this time. Someone said you are also exempt from emissions testing if you have collectors insurance(reason being usually its rare cars like an old lambo or restored muscle car, and there really is no hope of ever passing emissions lol) hes getting back to me after he checks it out on that. But if you live in AZ like me, im sure he could also give you collectors car insurance.

Arizona may be different than Wisconsin, but here once a car/truck is 20 years old it would qualify for collector/hobbyist liscense plates depending on if the car is modified or stock; but it's a one time fee for the liscense plate so the registration never needs to be renewed and it wouldn't need an emmision test.

Collector car insurance is for a car that is not a primary driver and is covers the real world value of a car, not a "blue book" value, which for the mr2's is way off a realistic value!

I called to ask if the car would qualify, the lady said it would; I wasn't about to ask why. The only qualification that I didn't meet was my age...I need to be 25 to insure a car with collector car insurance; but I turn 25 in July, so next month I will be able to put collector insurance on it! Right now the car has no insurance at all; I drive it once, maybe twice a month so I didn't see it being an issue; but a new law just passed, so car insurance is mandatory as of June 1st...

Until June 1st this year car insurance was not mandatory, but now that it is all the insurance rates in the state got higher. For example, my motorcycle was $29.34/month to insure full coverage when I had one unreasonable/imprudent speed ticket; a couple weeks ago my policy renewal came up, and the ticket was gone and in addition the ticket not being held against me I now get a "Safe Driver" discount, and my insurance in noe $33.87/month. Ever since I got my drivers liscense when I was 16 I have never had a lapse in coverage or just not insured a car that was a daily driver.

When I first bought my Mr2 almost 6 years ago, I daily drove it for that summer, it was $185/mo for insurance. After that summer I put the car in storage for winter and removed the insurance because I didn't drive it and I couldn't afford to insure it...since then I've had 1-2 additional cars that I daily drive and always insure. To put it into perspective how much I drive my mr2, since I bought it almost 6 years ago, I have daily driven the car for one summer and I have put just over 3k miles on it...And thinking of it, I can't remember the last time I drove the car. And I am one of the most conscious drivers I know, I always know where other cars are around me and am more worried about the next guy them myself; and if I decide I want to drive 'stupid' as I call it, I go to country roads where no one is around and the only one I can hurt is myself, and the retarded deer that would run out in front of me

you dont have to be any specific age to get collectors insurance but the car must be 25 years or older to be considered a collectors item...

I would assume that all depends on the insurance provider. When I talked to the lady and Grundy she said the car qualifies, the only requirement that I didn't meet was my age; I don't turn 25 until July 19.
