Ignition cylinder - 91 MR2

Okay, so I'm thinking of buying a 91 MR2. The main problem tht's prohibiting my from going to go get it right now is that it needs a new ignition cylinder.

Okay, now first off does anyone know a trustworthy place to buy a part like this? I've done a few searches and looked on ebay and this is pretty much all I came up with: http://www.oehq.com/acdelco-parts_E1450D_ACD_ACDelco%20Ignition%20Lock%20Cylin der~1991%20TOYOTA%20MR2%202.0L.htm

And finally, if there's anyone on here who has ever done this, could you walk me through or point me towards a guide of what I'm actually supposed to do to replace the part. And if you know, how long should a job like this take?'

Any info is appreciated.

Where the car is located, that's not really an option.

I would buy one from a mr2 being parted out.

Do you know where hartford is? That's where I live and there's a guy a couple minutes from my house with two mr2's sitting in his yard; I've went there a few times a did a 'pick-n-pull' he only charged my $10 a part. It would be best to remove it yourself from a car that it won't matter if something get's screwed up, because neither of those cars will be road worthy again...

What is wrong with the ignition that's in the car now?

Depending on where and when, I might be able to help you put it in the other mr2

Thanks jedi I might end up actually using that site.

But yeah Russel I know the general area of where it is, never been there though. The situation is still pretty iffy though. I won't have the money for the MR2 till I get paid next but assuming the car is still there I might send you a PM about the getting the part from the guy that you know with the MR2s that are just sitting there. The car is actually located in Chicago though so I dunno how much you could help with that.

But if you know the proper way to take the cylinder out you could certainly help me with that. Cause I would pretty much just be taking everything in the steering column apart until I got to it.

But the actual problem with the cylinder, the owner said it has seized up and you can't even turn the key to try and get it to turn over and that I'll need a new cylinder and set of keys. I'm not sure, but I'm assuming the old cylinder has already been taken out.

But I will let you know and see if you can help me out.

Many times the ignition lock will bind and you have to "jiggle" the steering wheel while turning the key and it will give way. A common problem .

That may have been all you had to do at one point. But either that wasn't the case, or he didn't realize it.
Cause from this picture he sent me it looks like it's just hanging there and I'm not totally sure what all he tried to do to it.

dunno we will see...

He probably thought it was only 2 wires and that he could easily hot wire it...
