2nd Generation Removing the steering wheel

Awesome next problem!

Removing the steering wheel. FYI no p/s or airbag.
I have removed the horn cover, the top cover of the steering column, and the large bolt at the center of the wheel. Yet it is still hanging on strong. Can anyone help in telling me what i haven't done yet? Or shouldn't have done?

Have you tried rocking the steering wheel from side to side? I'd strongly suggest putting the centre nut back on before trying to pull it loose, because it hurts like hell when you smash yourself in the face with either the steering wheel or your fist

If you put the centre nut on just so it screws onto the thread, then you should be able to free the steering wheel by rocking it from left to right while applying pressure towards the front of the car. If all else fails, head down to Supercheap Auto or Repco and buy a steering wheel puller

Thanks Mate
I just tried to rock it off, but i noticed it is attached to the centre bolt?? when i rotate the wheel the bolt rotates with it. I cant see on the back due to the housing for the blinkers and wipers.
Should i just pull harder?

Hmm, it shouldn't be although I've never owned an MR2 so can't say for sure.

I managed to find a post on an MR2 forum explaining how to remove it and there is no mention of it being attached any other way apart from the centre nut on the steering spline:

Perhaps it's just stuck due to age. You could keep pulling, but also try give it a whack on each side of a wheel with your palm (or a rubber mallet) to help free it up. Also, instead of putting pressure towards the front of the car when rocking it, try pulling towards yourself while rocking it this time. Really put some elbow grease into it. It's going to have to come free eventually
