USA 86 mr2 sitting 4 10yrs

My buddy has a '86 mr2 that has been sitting for approx. 10 years. We want to get it running and cleaned up for my daughter. Any suggestions?
I definatly want to prime the engine with oil but haven't found procedures for that. I want to get it running before spending any$ on brakes,tires,paint,ect...

Best thing u can do, is DRAIN the old oil inside it, its probably realy bad condition. You can get a oil and a filter on special for like 16$ from autozone. Thats probly best way to have car running is OIL.

Next main issue is FILTERS, AIR FILTER, if it had one inside it, you need to check ur car for JUNK, insects and leafs inside the AIR SYSTEM and change the AIR filter.

Next u can use a FUEL system cleaner and Fuel injector cleaner or carb cleaner its an FUEL additive. Oh yes Put in NEW FUEL, old fuel is BAD! Old fuel might even have a LOT of water in it. If u want u can even drain it. After using any kind of fuel system cleaner, i would burn some gas. And eventualy replace oil and oil filter again, u can check dipstick, it will probably get PITCH BLACK again realy fast. U want it to be golden or dark golden thats normal for new oil.

U can also replace coolant, before u start driving, drain it completly and then fill it up.

As far as what u wrote about "priming the oil" you dont realy need to do that. Just Disconnect the SPARK PLUGS and CRANK the engine a few times with the starter. This way it wont fire. Toyota usualy desings engines so if they are emptied, they will distribute oil and water or coolant all over even when empied and refilled.

If you have problems running the car, i would check your FUEL filter and FUEL PUMP. Drain the FUEL from fuel tank. and possibly change the filter. U can dissconnect the fuel line at the injectors or carbutrator and check if it pisses oil either when u turn key or crank engine.

If ur have a carb or fuel injected car, u can also use CARB CLEANER spray, make sure its safe for ur car though. Have some one else spray it inside carburator or intake while u crank car, and push the gas. If the car runs then and not before u have ok engine, but crappy fuel delivery.

Well thats bout it, I think. Basic idea is u aint supposed to have a car that sits still or it dies, u need to start it at least once a month to keep it running well. Car i got was standing for like 2 years, but still ok. Oil was pitch black, and some burned oil inside engine, means that previous owner used crapy oil and it burned inside engine, or not enuff of it.

Im so jealous, i want mr2 too!

Drain oil, remove old filter. Replace with new oil and new filter.
Drain fuel, replace with good fuel.
Pour a tablspoon of fresh oil into each cylinder.
Replace spark plugs with properly gapped plugs.(or you can try and clean up the old ones)
Replace distributor cap and rotor.(or you can try and clean up the old ones)
Plug wires that old probably not any good either.
You'll need a fully charged battery.
Remove fuel pump fuse.
Turn over engine several times to get internal engine components lubricated.
Reinstall fuel pump fuse.
Crank it up.
Hopefully it will start.
If it does, don't rev it up too high for awhile.

If you have a scope to look inside cylinder chamber, I would do that 1st
Hopefully, the cylinder walls aren't rusted.
If so, you will need to do an engine rebuild.

replace the accessory belts (ie. A/C and Alternator/Water Pump).
replace the timing belt as well.

if you feel adventurous, i'd also suggest replacing all of the vacuum lines, as the years will have made them brittle.

Any suggestions? sure: AAA

10 years?..garaged or outside? (day n nite)

If left to the elements for 10 years and you just try to kill time keep going..wont hurt, in the long run will cost you many times over the value

I would remove the valve cover and pour oil over all the cams/valves, the oil fill cap doesn't cover the head in oil; you might cover half of a cam before it stars running to the oil pan...

Before I spent any money on the car I would change the oil, charge the battery and pull a spark plug just to make sure you get spark. My girlfriends sister's boyfriend just bought an Accord that I did a clutch and brake job on last fall and it had maybe 100 miles driven on it, so it basically sat for 8 months. When we got the guys house he said "good luck gettting it started" so I hook up the jumper cables and try starting it nothing...so I pull a plug no spark, looking around the engine bay I noticed a mouse was living behind the driver headlight, and he decided to chew up a bunch of the engine's wire harness...
