strange noise

does anyone know if the mr2 engine usually run with a faint clicking noise? i'm not sure if it's always been clicking like that, but i noticed it after running it kinda hard a couple of times. also, it appears that when shifting from 3-4 or 4-5 with the turbo being pushed, the HKS BOV doesn't pssshhhhh like it does when shifting from 1-2 or 2-3. is there something wrong with that? thanks.

what year is ur car??...is it a ticking noise??...could be a warped exhaust manifold that is causing this noise and an exhaust leak....very common on 91s...are u still able to hit full boost??....

my mr2 is a '91. it does have an exhaust leak... i believe it's leaking from where the first cat hooks up to the GReddy exhaust system. i am still able to hit full boost, but is the BOV supposed to sound between all shifts??? mr2's should be able to take a few runs right, if well maintained?

i can still hit full boost. i believe there is an exhaust leak, where the first cat hooks up with the aftermarket system. i'm not sure if the noise was there before though. also, could the problem be in the valvetrain? mr2s should be able to take a few runs rite? if being well-maintained.

good luck with that, i just had the same problem with mine and ended up getting a new head, a new exhast manifold, and all new gaskets, associated hoses etc, my bill is over 3K right now, big chunk out of my ass hurts so make sure you take care of it right away, check the studs and make sure they arent broken, (that is what started my whole problem), i would change all the studs holding the manifold to head, the turbo to manifold, and turbo to downpipe get new gaskets and make sure make sure make sure you torque everything exactly as it should be done

im not sure if replacing the studs are necessary. the motor is relatively new, only 50k on it. it also wasn't pushed that hard, not even to redline. if it is the studs, how much would u say they cost to replace? and how difficult is it? thanks.

keep in mind that the car is still over ten yrs old if its a 91....u should replace manifold studs regardless of mileage because they will wear down over time....the studs themselves aren't all that expensive from the dealership...
