3SGTE Gen2 or 3SGTE Gen3

I own a 1991 MR2 N/A and I'm planning to swap it out for a 3SGTE. I know the Gen2 3SGTE has a diff. turbo than the Gen3, CT26 in the Gen2 and CT20B in the Gen3. I was wondering the the Gen3 is really worth the extra $1100 or so, or if it would be better to swap the turbo in the Gen2. Thanks fellow MR2 owners.

i'm a firm believer in gen2 motors....add a t3/t4 with supporting mods....and easily 300rwhp.....

what motor u decide on depends on how fast u really want the car to be and what ur budget will be.....the ct-26 is way too small IMO and is not capable of making enough power (240rwhp max maybe).....the ct-20b will make more power but its still limited to well under 300rwhp range...

the ct26 is pretty powerful already...my mechanic has it in his 88 celica gts..and he's pushing close to 300whp w/ supra front mount intercooler and 13psi...it's really up to you what you want..if you have the extra money for the later gen..then go for it..but in my opinion an extra $1100 for an extra 20hp is not worth it...just my .02

even tho the gen 3 has a better head, if youre gonna upgrade the turbo i dont think its worth it...even though i bet you could sell the ct20b for nearly the difference. i mean theres people selling ct26s made into ct20bs for $950....so theres a lot of possibilities. if you just wanted the turbo motor now, and upgrade it later, i would get the gen 3...but like others have said, that difference could be a t3/t4 upgrade that you would make later anyways.....

it was so powerful i had to get rid of it.....

honestly....stock ct-26 is limited to around 240rwhp...way under my goal of 300rwhp.....i used to think my car was fast before the t3/t4...but when i finally did the upgrade....night n day difference....all i needed was my butt dyno to tell me....car pulls so much harder.....

Nice...im surprised that you didn't reach 300whp with your ct26...my mechanic actually just put the 3sge intake manifold (big difference)..supra injectors...turbosmart BOV..3inch d/pipe with a 3 inch exhaust..no cat..supra front mount intercooler..and boosting 13psi...and he's close to 300....my setup will almost be the same as his and hoping to get close to 300..i'll try to post up the dyno sheet as soon as their dyno is installed..

everything was around $500 CAD.....my tuner has a wideband Motec that he uses to tune....with stock fuel...i was maxing out and was at the limits of the stock fuel system....general rule of thumb is that stock fuel system is good for under 300rwhp....
