3rd gen swap issue

Hello nation, I recently put in a 3rd gen motor into a 91 n/a. Everything went in easy. I fired her up and she starts and idles fine. Revs up nice but after a min. If I feather the throttle she wants to die and as I let off the throttle shell start to recover and I can give her gas and she'll be able to rev for that cycle. I do have a check engine code of 31 which I can't seem to figure out. Any 1 fimiliar with this?
