UK 2gr-fe swap

After much debate, I/we decided to take the supercharged 1mz -fe engine out and go 2gr-fe. Got to thank Paula and Johnny and Gouky for knocking some sense into me. Had to really, 300 + bhp out the box in n/a flavour.

Pre supercharged pic.

Engine was put up for sale as a complete unit. In the end the supercharger was sold seperatly to Gidon and the engine package, manifolds exhaust were sold to Simon (Tripod 23).

Anth from Woodsport agreed to oversee the swap in return for a mountain bike, some sexual favours and a pot noodle. Paula and her trousers were also at hand in case we needed a cup of coffee.

Actual pic of Paula asking us if we want a cuppa.

So out with the eer new and in with newer!

The 2GR dressed up, Goukys headers and mounting kit. I have to say the workmanship on the headers and mounting kit is second to none.

Uber sexual 2GR.

Engine hung.

Subframe, drivedhafts, hubs, brakes hd wheels back on.

Engine ensconsed No plumbing or wiring done. Car is ready to go up to A.A.S. Newcastle for an exhaust and mid section.

Everything went pretty smoothly, the only downside was the rev 3 lsd box I bought. The support shaft that the release bearing runs along was snapped off, so in theory the box is Donald Ducked. Must have been taken off by some china in a shop full of bulls.

Well seen as I now have the car back, I've started to tidy up the engine bay as order by Mrs. Paula W.

Pics just after engine install.

Bit of elbow grease.

Need to paint the strut brace red and the fuse box cover. Might have an issue with the strut brace clearance.

Jay took some pics of the engine bay today. Had a little tickle in the car today and I'm in two minds. It's quite capable of interspace travel but I'm thinking a standalone might be next on the agender. The rev limiter kicks in too soon, I think an ecu would sort this our nicely. Plus if you do go supercharger, you would prolly need to go Stan Danlone anyhow???????

Ohh got some low rise quad lights as well!

Wow! Thats a tight fit. How do/will you get to the spark plugs when it's time?
Just curious.
Awsome swap though. You make it sound easy.

It looks like you'd have to remove the intake manifold...That would be a P.I.T.A. if that what it would take, but by the looks of it you'd have to do that regardless of what car it is in, and I don't think Toyota would build it like that.

Looks good though! Is the 2gr the one used in the current V6 models like the Avalon, Camry, Rav4, Fj?

Actually it's not too tight a fit, you can change the spark plugs ok. I just helped out with the swap, I have two very good friends who helped me out no end. I could not do the wiring that's way over my head.

We went custom inlet manifold, not sure what the original item looks like as we were always going custom.

Yeah current V6 models, Avalon, Camry and Rav 4.

Actually, it looks easier to change the rear bank's plugs on the 2GR because the upper intake manifold is shorter. The 1MZ's intake manifold has longer runners, so it's pretty much almost directly over the rear bank's head. You can change the plugs on the rear bank with the 1MZ without removing the intake manifold. You just have to feel around a bit.

The 2GR's heads are also a bit wider than the 1MZ's, which helps a bit too.

I'd love to do a 2GR swap, but getting my 1MZ swap CA smog legal has proved troublesome already.
