Still looking for a new project car, considering manual celica gt-s 2000-2005 or manual MR2 91-99 Turbo. How much could be the MR2 turbo of let say 91? In decent mechanical and ext/int conditions? Just for anchor... I see some NA MR2s of 91-93 for 1500-2500, and also see some MR2 turbo 91 for 4500.... Don't know the mileage yet (assuming it is 150K+)...

Those prices are in line-depending on condition.
A '91 can go anywhere from $2k-$7K-once again, depending on mileage and condition.

There were no MR2's imported into the US from '96-'99. Those years were JDM only.
The '95's are very rare, but they're out there.
Ok, if I get NA (5S) 91 MR2 with manual trans and decide to swap engine to 1MZ - can I re-use the MR2's transmission or I need to look for manual transmission also?
Or, maybe 3sgte transmission will fit? (I can see it in craigslist)

Both the transmissions from the mr2 will bolt to the 1MZ, the turbo transmission code is E153 and the na is S54 iirc. If you are able to find an E153 from a 93+ mr2 turbo odds are is has a factory LSD, but so you know not all 93+ transmissions are LSD, my Mr2 had a 93 E153 that isn't LSD, but in 93+ they are more durable, 2nd and 3rd are double syncro I believe, as opposed to single syncro in the 91-92. But the 93+ cannot be rebuilt affordably because toyota doesn't sell individual parts.

1995 toyota mr2 turbo (jdm swapped car, was originally n/a) toyota only imported 356 95's and is the last year of the sw20 for the usa
146 on the chassis, new oem turbo. Car will pass emissions. has the original exhaust.
the only mods on the car is a upgraded smic and a mbc set at 12psi..does have lowering springs to get rid of the lifted look. The wheels were painted grey by a po
Car runs great, looks great and is ready to cruise with the t-tops off!
The car has never been wrecked (as far as i know.. no frame damage and the car fax is clean). The leather interior has been recovered probably about 5 years ago. It looks fantastic. The tan looks great with a red car!
The car does have some bad points- it is a 15 year old car!
needs rear rotors, the stocks are warped
probably needs suspension bushings soon
replaced the clutch with an act clutch, much firmer/grabbier than stock. Not good for a daily driver
the carpert has a hole under the clutch pedal.
Paint is all original, so its not the best, but looks great for a 15yo car
No info about mileage though. Asking price is $6900. I asked for pics, mileage, leaking/not leaking t-top, what else should I ask about? What should I look at?

Nah, if it already has turbo, why would I want to drop 1MZ.... I considered 1MZ swap only if I find dirt-cheap-but-still-in-good-shape NA MR2.
Here is more info (I wonder if the guy actually reads the TN )

The car is manual- all mr2 turbos are (recent clutch replacement was mentioned in the add). The milage is 146k (about 70k on the motor, it checked out great with a compression test!) The t-tops dont leak less you are washing the car and spray a heavy streem right between the door glass and the t-top. It will leak altitle bit there. Pretty typical since mr2s dont have a frame around the glass. The car is not obd2. Never was offered with this car. It is running stock usdm electronics for 93 though. yes, the engine is a 3sgte.
No ,the car is actually a 95. titled and registered as that. Its the real deal. The motor is a from a 93 mr2 in japan. Its still the same kind of 3sgte (gen2) that we got here untill 95. 94+ motors in japan (3rd gen) we never saw here in the states. The trans is the correct turbo trans, with lsd.
You have probably never seen a 95 because it is so rare. I beleve i read somewhere that there are ~200 left in the usa. I am at work and only have a few pics. The wheels/tires are not included, they are just a set I had on the car at one time. I have about 300 pics at home of the car since ive had it.

Too high! and 12psi isn't an upgrade. They max out at 12psi stock(in good running condition), which is the fuel cut point ,unless you eliminate it.
Well, I think we can negotiate, thanks for the input! How much would you suggest this car worth?
And you are saying that 12 psi is stock turbo for 3sgte, right?

Yes, if the engine is in good condition. The ECU will limit boost if it thinks the engine is not at optimum condition. Many will only boost 7-10 psi because of this.
16 psi is max for the stock turbo.
Also, that car must have a swap, because thats an N/A body.
I would never buy someone elses swap. You will run into a lot of problems.
I belive they only sold 300-400 95's in the entire united states.
If you own a 95 turbo, you can expect over $10k pricetag.
I've seen a 95 Turbo sell for $25k or something outragous, but it had every option and only about 10k miles.
But with the rarity of a 95, I believe any mods, would reduce the value because rare cars are worth more when in original condition. The only thing that might not reduce the value, but not neccesarily increase value would be TRD parts
That mr2 appears to be in good shape, and i don't think that is an unreasonable price. I can see it being up for sale for a while though if he is firm with the price; people usually son't buy sports cars when the economy is in the crapper! My mr2 is a 91 and I am making sure to not cut anything up or drill any holes, basically anything that can't be returned to stock; and if it were a 95 I wouldn't even consider it!
