air intake

2 questions.
1) how come the jdm mr2's have the MAP sensors and the us has the AFM sensor? is there an advantage of one over the other?

2)does anyone make cold air intake systems for the MR2 (mk2) or are they all ram b/c there isn't much room for piping?

thanks.

first question.....i think North American emissions laws may play a part since they are much stricter then japan....

second....its difficult to really get the "ram air" effect in mr2s because of the location of the air box and the mid engine design....most after market intakes are much more effecient at drawing more air into the motor....if u want to focus on getting cooler charged air into the motor.....look into upgrading ur IC.....

I have a '96 Turbo and I use this intake (although it's not a CAI). It sounds cool and I can surely feel the difference in performance. You will have better acceleration (higher torque) with a short ram intake anyway. Unless you are looking for high end (higher horsepower)...then you might want to see if you could get a custom CAI made or something...as I don't know of any CAI's for an MR2.

I haven't had any problems yet, but I am open to suggestions as I don't see many intakes for our cars out there.

i have read that placing the intake close to the "scoop" on the sid eof the car isnt the best palce for it. our cars design is to draw air from up under the car.... so i would think you would see gains from any non-restrictive intake.

aite, thanks. i was just thinking that if somehow i could get the ram effect...it would make more power. is there any benefits to having the TOM's scoop or Bomex on either side of the car or is it just for show? i'm thinking that it would catch more air, but also disrupt the aerodynamics of the slick Two.

even if the scoop did draw in the air, our car are designed to draw a large amount of it air from under the engine out threw the engine lid. so if it drew it into the engine bay it would either be drawn back out threw the engine lid or cause a turblence(sp?0 effect.... and we all knwo thats bad
