1992 MR2 Bad miss no power

I have a 92 MR2 that has slowly developed a bad miss. When accelerating it misses bad and has no power. It jerks and misses really bad almost like its gagging. It had a really rough idle to so I thought I would try something easy and put a set of plugs in it .So I did that and it still has no power when driving. Now it idles super fast at about 2300 rpm's.It will idle at about 2300 then it s will drop to about 1800 rpms just for a second ,almost like its getting choked off and then right back up to 2300.Anyone have any suggestions what it could be.I was gonna try the fuel filter(which I don't think it is) next and then maybe the TPS.I also did a diagnostic code check where you use the paper clip and jump the leads and there were no codes stored.

Thanks for your help.

There is only three things as we know that gives you combustion in an engine. Air, Spark, Fuel. Check those basic things first. Make sure your wires are not bad, damaged wires that bounce around can cause spark to be lost intermittently.

While you may not think so, I have heard of fuel filters causing very similar problems to what yours is doing. Seeing as the fuel filter costs under $20 and is very easy to install, I think it would be to your benefit to try it anyway. That is unless you have already done one in the recent past.

You can access it from underneath, on the drivers side, mounted to the chassis in front of the transmission.

Worked on car today and was pulling plug wires off and checking them while it was running and noticed two of the plug wires were arcing through the plug boot stem down inside the valve cover near the plug causing it to misfire.I put those wires on a couple years ago and they were fairly expensive American made wires,I was surprised they were bad.I still had the original set I had saved and put them back on and it runs really good now.

Thanks to all who helped.
