Gen1 Bad ecu?

[B]Problem Solved- Was A Broken Timing Belt I Had Replaced 2 Years Ago When I Replaced My WaterPump
[B]Lesson Learned- Sometimes Your Better Off Shelling Out The Extra Cash

Hey everyone, i've got a problem that's starting to piss me off so if anyone can help i'd appreciate it.

While i was driving my mk1 out to the farmhouse it suddenly shut down on me and i had to have it towed the rest of the way there. my friend and i have looked at it several times and still have yet to figure out whats wrong but this is what we've done so far..

1. checked compression - good
2. fuel- come back to that
3. spark- none

We used an alt meter to determine no current to the igniter, so i replaced both igniter and coil with no results. That was before we pulled codes 2&3 from the diagnostic ports. We then swapped out several relays from the fuse block including the efi and main eng. relays also with no results. But i noticed yesterday that when we tried to start it that i could not hear the fuel pump prime the system.

So the questions are... What are we overlooking? What besides the ecu could cause no fuel pressurization and a lack of signal to the igniter?

Ecu's arn't cheap if a good one is found and it's really cutting into my eng. swap budget. I need a cheap fix cause my other vehicles a gass guzzling truck and it kills my bank. p.s. car had a prior swap its an 88 with a red top, been told its a big bore. would there be conflicting issues with ecu if it's supposed to have a small bore?

to solve the 'big bore/small bore' question, look at the intake manifold. nevermind where the side the air is coming from - these are both RWD (AE86) setup manifolds - AW11 (MR) will have the air feed on the opposite side.

the intake manifold on the LEFT is from the 'big port' that has TVIS. it has the 8 intake runners in total. the manifold on the RIGHT is from the 'small port.' as you can SORT OF see, it only has 4 intake runners.

also, the 'small port' has an oil drain. you can see it at the BOTTOM LEFT of this photo, which would put it at cylinder 4, under the intake manifold.

so... figure that out, and lets go from there.

if you have a 'large port,' i do believe i have a spare ECU from a manual transmission AW11 laying around. IF i do, pay $20 and shipping, and its yours.

I'm going back to where the car is stored today to take another look at it... I'm pretty damn sure it's a "big port" and i know it has t-vis. I've yet to determine if it is the ecu but, if you have one for 20 bucks i'm interested... let me know if you can locate it and how to work out payment and shipping arrangements. I'm getting tired of old cars with old shit lol though i love my mk1 i can't wait to get a modified silvertop swap.

if you have TVIS, then it is a large port. the small port never came with TVIS.

i'll see about finding the ECU and i'll let you know.

i, like you, simply can not and will not give up my AW11. so, i understand your need/desire to keep it running.

I just picked up an ecu for 40 dollars, i'll try it out today and see if it works... Got my fingers crossed. If not i'm almost out of ideas.
