2nd Generation are all 5sfe blocks the same?

Are all 5sfe blocks the exact same or did they change at any point. I want to buy a short block for a 95 camry to put in my 91 mr2.

I want to go the other way I have a 95 camry, I want to put a 91 celica engine and transmission into. Will both engine and trans exchange? Can I leave the engine complete and drop it in?

Everything will work except you will need to drill and tap a hole for the knock sensor. You also may want to check that the holes where all your accessories are in the right places but I have not heard of anyone having problems with that on a 5sfe.

The blocks made after January 1992 had some structural differences. They are stronger and said to be made out of a stronger material with more silica. They can be over bored more too. For most those things will not matter.

You will need to plug the oil hole for the balance shafts unless you keep them and the deeper pan. I would recommend getting rid of it though because it interferes with the exhaust on an MR2.
