Hey im lookin to buy a 1989 mr2. Its got 170k miles on it. just had the timing belt replaced, well maintained, looks good runs good and sounds good but im still hesitant. If i buy this what kind of maintnence is to be expected.
It's like any other car. Even with the high mileage, if it drives good , you think it was well maintained and looks to be in good condition, go for it-if the price is right.
Just remember, the car IS going on 22 yrs old. Any car that old will need alot of TLC. So if you're not willing or able to provide that, I would pass it by. It would be best if you had another car to drive-just in case.
How much are they asking for it?
seems like a pretty decent deal to me if there is minimal rust and such. But of course you need to check it out and test drive it. But overall i would say the price seems about right. Also im not really sure if its NA or SC. It doesnt specify but i would assume NA
yea you should wait till it warms up. It could be that it is just burning off some caked on oil or some stuff that has gotten onto the motor from sitting. Nothing to worry about unless it continues after idling for a bit. I would have expected it to smoke
Ive seen MK1's with 330k+ On them with the original motor and they still run great. Just do the oil changes, tune ups, and fix shit when it breaks. Thats all you need to know to have a long running car.
