4A-GE Silvertop Engine question

I have come across a silvertop engine that I am looking into replacing my 4A-GE engine currently in MR2. Just curious but will it fit into my car without any major issues and will I need a new transmission for the MR2?

My MR2 has the second generation 4A-GE engine as it is an 1987. Thanks for any help. I am having my mechanic do all the work, he is just a bit busy at the moment so I thought I would come here for a quicker response.

Check the forums for swap info, as i cannot remember all there is for that swap. I will tell you that the eng. is a direct bolt-in and will also mount to your existing tranny though you may want to upgrade to a six speed later. I forget the website but you will need coolant relocation hoses as well as a wire harness splice because of the update to obd1 and possibly a couple other things. I would reccomend replacing your old eng/tranny mounts and getting urethane inserts to slide into the new ones. If you are having someone else do the work and money isn't an issue you could get the blacktop itb's and wiring for the silvertop as well as a one piece intake manifold, a good start for a later turbo mod.

Club AG and Mr2OCForum (Engine Swaps) is where you need to be hanging out. Tons of people have replaced the 4age with the silver and black tops. Plenty of info on how to do a NICE, PROPER install.Just make sure you live in an area that does not do gov smog tests!!!! And if your doing a swap, and having a mechanic do it, make DARN sure he knows what the heck he's doing!! I have seen a number of BAD jobs and it ain't purdy, poor running and costs a fist full of $$. Do it once....do it RIGHT or go home.

And make sure to NEVER use a JDM motor without rebuilding it!

I'd have to say 98% of every imported motor is a shitshow inside...

This one was mine!

lol... it was. that was after many different 'oil cleaners' that I tried. Couldn't figure out why the motor ran so bad...
