what is it about the latch that doesnt work. You may be able to access the cable with either from behind the seats where there is a retainer (common point that it breaks) or in the engine bay and try to pull the cable with pliers.

Other than that you may need to find a locksmith

thanks, i alrieady tried that though, thought i was brilliant till my dad told me that its disabled from the lock mechanism on the trunk, when somebody was working on the car he was trying to figure out how to open the hood for the engine in the back, and started messing with things and accidentaly broke or purposely disabled the trunk lever cable from the lock mechanism to the trunk, if i get that fixed than i dont need to get the key lock fixed.

Ditto what The Engineer said.
A good locksmith can make a key for the lock on the spot.

will this open my '89 mr2's trunk?

i was told to
drill a 1/4" hole at the top of the license plate. The hole will be behind and level with the top of the license plate, centered exactly under the lid. The lock latch is above and to the right of the hole. Use a thin screwdriver to open the latch with a clockwise quarter circle motion.
will this actually work or is it a bad idea, considering my lock is broken, and the latch in my front seat wont open the back trunk.

I wouldn't do it, it could just make matters worse, best to be safe and get a locksmith to come down and open it for you.
