I believe it's plug and play. I would definitely use the 94 ECU.

Just to make sure, since your wording is kind of unclear...

If you're re-using your transmission your axles will still work. If you got a transmission with the new motor and it has LSD, your 91 axles won't work without some modification, since LSD wasn't available in '91.

Also, is the '94 motor from a u.s. model, or is it japanese? If it's usdm, then like the other guys said, it will be pretty much plug and play. If it's JDM, that's another story.

Just saw in your other thread that you have a non-turbo motor in a turbo chassis? If that's the case then the swap is a bit more involved. You'll need the turbo ecu, wiring harness, intercooler and piping (dont know if that's included with your new motor) and I'm not sure if the non-turbo transmission will work. I think it will, but I don't know for sure.

my swap from 5s-fe to 3s-gte I needed new fuel pump as well as the engine/tranny/intercooler/ecu/wiring harness
for the axels, you will need new wheel hubs as well for the new transmission. If Chico Race Works still sells them, he makes axels that will fit the turbo tranny, and are machined to fit the 5s-fe hubs.
my swap thread is floating around here somewhere. did it about three years ago.

EDIT: Just noticed he already had a turbo model MR2, so this info kinda useless.

The year isn't important as far as the axles go. What's important is if the trans is LSD or not. Non-lsd axles are all the same no matter what year. Same as lsd axles, the year doesn't matter. Non-lsd axles can be machined to work in an lsd trans. But like I said earlier, if you're re-using your current turbo trans, just use your axles too.

A ay to tell if it's JDM or not is to look for an EGR valve. It's a little round valve next to the intake manifold that has a pipe going into the head next to the valve cover. USDM motors have them, JDM do not. I think that if it's a jdm 94 motor, it's a 3rd gen (nice improvement over the usdm motors). Pretty sure 94 is when Japan got the good stuff, we got stuck with the 2nd gen through 95 over here.
