Help!

Hi everyone,

Was driving home in my 2000 MR2 vvti SMT when it suddenly went into neutral. Parked up and switched off then switched on again, engine management light stays on, and i can put it into reverse ok, but when i put it in drive it just stays in neutral. I realise this is probably a stupid question, but does anyone have any idea of what it could be, and if so how much a garage are likely to charge me to fix it?

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Thanks

Dave

The SMT's are problematic at best. Many stories like yours. It'll probably be very expensive.
Honestly, I would buy a used 5 speed manual transmission and swap it in. It'll probably be as much or cheaper. Certainly alot more dependable.

Obviously it'd be a job for a mechanic (I can just about change a plug, lol!), any idea of how much i'd be looking at?

Cheers mate.

My '01 had a 5 speed manual.
You will need:
Transmission
Clutch pedal
Return Spring
Clutch Master
Hydraulic Line
Clutch Slave
Clutch Disc
Pressure Plate
Flywheel
Shifter cables
Shifter
Shifter Boot
Can't remember if it had a neutral switch.
And all the clips and retainers to hold everything in place.
All can be had at a salvage yard.
