About to buy the Mr2, just need advice

Im looking for a used Mr2 turbo or non turbo, I found a dark green one, about 110k miles for $2000, Im going to look at it tonite, but the guy said the car wont go into 2nd gear. Its not a T top but has moonroof. Does anyone know why it wont go into 2nd gear and how much would it cost to fix? Is it true that mr2 tranny and the celica tranny is the same?

Thanks!!

If anyone else In MASS selling a Mr2, please email me at bo.chen@fmr.com

i would say its the syncro ...2 nd gear syncros are bad for these trannies...as for fixing it...im not sure how much but i would think the best thing would be to rebuild the whole tranny or replace the tranny...its alot of work to just change one thing...best to change it all while you have it out. but that is strictly an opinion...im kinda new to the toyota scene

Celica has AWD.... thats not gonna work on your mr2. Unless you are talking about the 5sfe tranny... that one should work. Is this one you are looking at a Turbo or NA?

fwd transmissions have the shifter linkage on backside of trans vs. rwd coming out the front. I know the turbo trans is an e153, and there's one for sale on this forum somewhere and another on ebay that ends tonight I believe. Both of these mentioned are LSD equipped. I'm not sure what model comes in the n/a car.

yo, if you dont end up buying that MR2 w/ 110k miles, plz look into mine. Im selling my 91' n/a w/ 98k miles. Car is in perfect working order and has NO mechanical probs whatsoever! Come with rims and an intake. If interested email me at : bugsyman5@aol.com

Oh, BTW about that tranny prob that car has.... What I would do is get a new tranny. There is no use in rebuilding it if it break again in the future. That will be big $$$ though
