2nd Generation 2G 3SGE lifter conversion

Good day/night everyone

I need some help urgenly.
I am curently buying 272* cam shafts for my 3SGE Gen 2 engine + spring and retainer kit,but i got confused (i think).I'd read somewhere that i will have to convert my lifters into shim under bucket or shimless ,so i decided to go shimless (for some reason ?!) I have read some thread before and i think i got confused cos' i've ordered springs&retainer kit for shimless lifters and now i am not sure if 1sz-fe or 1 zz-fe will or any other engine lifters i will have to buy?
From my understandin 1zz-fe is shim under bucket so it is not good for me!
1 sz-fe is shimless but i am not sure if its lifters will fit in my 2gen 3SGE and if they will my shim sizes are between 2.80 and 3.0 but the sizes for those start from 5.12? does this size includes the size of the lifter its self or ...?
Sorry,i know it may look stupid from my side but i am not very fam. with all of this stuff.
I have got adj.cam gears in addition and maf.pro scan (which i hope will be able to control ignition and whatever need to be changed too)
Pls let me know if you could i am going in a totally wrong way and if should expect some extra problems
Thanks and good day to everyone

I'm using the lifters from the 1ZZ in my 3sgte. They are shimless.
I averaged the valve clearance gap, then installed cams, remeasured and set the clearance trimming the valve stems. We actually only had to trim a couple of stems.

I thought 1zz comes with shim under bucket lifters?! What i have done so far is to have all shims measured while the head is still with stock cams. Clearance is 0,25 if i am not mistaken (not sure how much should it be with the new cams though)Then i have taken the sizes of all the shims as follows-4x2.80 ,4x2.85 ,5x2.90 ,2x2.95 and 1x3.0 .
If i remember correctly 1zz is shim under bucket and 1sz is shimless. The second one is found in Yaris and for 1zz i am not sure which model has that one.
Isn't it better if i just get shim under bucket lifters from 3 Gen 3 SGE ???
I will have to decide today or tommo cos' the cams (brain crawler ) will be shipped on Tuesday from USA.
Could you please help me with that?
Thanks a lot
PS: could you pls have a look www.toyodiy.com
There are all diagrams of all Toyota models. I am getting confused by the sizes there in the order specs cos' they start from 5.06 ???
Do you think these sizes come including the size of the lifter its self.
I just checked 1zz and you are right of course

These lifters are from the MR2 Spyder 1zzfe engine. There is no shim. It is 1 solid piece.
Whether shimless or shim under bucket, they both with work. Either way, no shim to fly off at high rpm's or with the stiffer springs. Just make sure they are correct diameter and height. And of course, contact surface thickness.
I'm using Brian Crower springs with titanium retainers also, but still using stock cams-for now.
As far as gap, I recommend using the widest gap witin spec. The valve clearance will get smaller as the valves seat.

OK.I understood. The only thing that is not clear is what do you mean by " Just make sure they are correct diameter and height" If i get them from 1zzfe will they come in different diameters ???
Could you please explain how to do the correct measurements ?
SO far i have the sizes of the shims ,but when i looked on that site i gave you 1zzfe sizes start from 5.06 ???
Do you think thats with the thickness of the lifters??

I mean to make sure the lifter bore for the 3sge head and 1zz head are the same. They probably are.

You'll need to measure the total thickness of your stock lifters to determine which 1zz lifters to get.
Do you own a micrometer? You'll need one to make that measurement. I got one for $20.00 at Sears.

Thanks for your quick reply MR2Jedi !
I had one lifter taken from 1szfe and compared it yesterday with one of mine. Its diameter is much smaller than the one from 3SGE . There was a thread where someone said that these parts were interchangeable which i found for not entirely correct. Some time ago i had ordered one lifter from 1szfe just as sample and yesterday i had the engine head opened. The lifters are much bigger and today i will try to get one from 1zzfe engine for sample.
Hope to finally find the best solution soon
Is it better to first fit the new cams and then measure the clearance and replace the lifters ?

Thanks once again and have a nice day
