Urgent MKI Brake Help!

I had finished with my brake & suspension rebuild when I went to move my car. The back brakes were completely locked up. After taking a closer look I realized that on the rebuilt rear calipers the metal sleeve where the lower 12mm bolt passes through was missing. What was happening was that the pads were being pinched tight since the sleeve acts as a spacer. I tried to see if the spacer/sleeve from my old calipers would come out with no luck.

My question is...does that spacer/sleeve come out? Is there a trick to it? I figure that it must since the rebuilt calipers don't have it. Thanks for everyones help.

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about....

are you talking about the metal 'cylinders' that have to be lubed, has the rubber boots on each side, and has to be able to slide?

those should come out, yes.....

Exactly. The rebuilt calipers didn't come with them & I couldn't get my old ones out. They are frozen solid on my old calipers. I was able to get a hold of the place I got them from & he is sending me 2 new ones.

you could try pounding them out with a hammer, just be careful not to mushroom it.... water probably got in and 'rusted' them together...

I've pulled them out, run them through a wire wheel, then used sil-glyde during reinstall and have no problems....

I soaked them for 2 days & they finally came loose. I still hadn't received the new ones so I cleaned them up & used some caliper grease & they seemed to slide just fine.
