I recently bought this 85 AW11 with 98,000 original miles. The engine has only 4000 miles on a complete rebuild. The former owner who did the work is a Toyota mechanic with 25 years on the job. He used Toyota parts whenever possible. He gave me receipts totaling nearly $4000 in parts, that's with his discount, and that's not counting his own labor. He rebuilt the gearbox, (it used to have the 5th gear pop-out), new clutch, muffler and pipes, radiator, brakes, tires, and much more. If I were to have hired someone to do all the work, it would cost 3 times the value of the car, but he did it as a labor of love. He built the car for his daughter, she didn't like it because she couldn't carry around her friends.
The body had a repaint years ago, it looks like a cheap Maaco special with silver tape lines on some of the black trim and spots of orange peal, so after the winter I give it a proper respray. There are a small couple spots of rust, but no rust through, would be an easy repair. It needs a new front rubber lip and mudflaps. Interior is in good shape, there are little things here and there that I will replace over time, like the torn shift boot and factory 2 knob radio. It shouldn't take too much to bring it back.
I've spent the last 2 days detailing it, probably have another 2 left before it's to my standards. There was some nasty faded purple tint that I removed, next is to shampoo the seats. Between this car and my other toy, a 90 Mustang GT Convertible, I should be busy for a while!
