Starter problems

Ok so I have a 91 mr2 n/a car wouldn't start after parkings so I let it cool down then it started but the starter stayed on and starts grinding I tried it 3 or 4 times and every time my starter would just stay on after car was running any ideas why this is could it be a bad starter or wiring or is it something to do with my switch I can turn the key to start and let go off the key and it will turn the starter on till the car starts as well is this normal or is something wrong ?

With a test light, check to see if you are getting a good ignition signal (the little wire to the starter), check that you have B+ at the starter and a good ground. If all those check out then i would suspect a bad starter. The solenoid that extends the drive gear to the flywheels if probably faulty.

As stated above, I would go with the bad solenoid.
