Exclamation Getting a 91 MR2

Hey Guys,

A lot of you might not know me as I only post in the off-topic and Camry forums.

I might be getting a 91 MR2 N/A and I have a couple questions for you guys.

1. What motor does the N/A come stock with(The guy lives in Georgia and doesn't know)
2. How hard would it be to swap a 3SGTE in the N/A MR2?
3. Are there any major problems with MR2's that I should know about?
4. How hard is it to swap the 94-95 taillghts on a 91( I think they're a little different and swapping them will make the MR2 look newer)

I would greatly appreaciate any help

Thanks

1. na's came with 5sfe.....
2. very common swap....motor drops in...have to re-wire ecu..
3. ttops are known to leak....91 turbos are notorious for exhaust manifold leaks...91 susension prone to understeer (which i dont believe....don't blame the car..blame the driver)
4. tail lite swap is easy if u have some sort of mechanical knowledge...no rewiring needed if u use current wiring harness and not the 94 harness...only need to extend reverse lites wires on 91 harness....

and u also love to post in MMM.....

me mine mods I believe. As for the MR2, if the guy doesn't know what motor is in it he doesn't sound very keen on cars, and may not know how to drive it. My reasoning for mentioning this is the MR2 I bought as a parts car had been lost control of and ran over a curb, and who know what all else. The oil pan has dents that you'd expect on a FWD car, but not a MR. The radiator was bent on bottom in such fashoin as to warp the cooling fans just enough to stop the blades from turning. Thank god a bad battery stopped him from driving it before it could overheat.
If you intend a swap like that I'd get a clip so you have all the proper parts associated.
One more thing, if it has t tops or a sunroof pour water on it to check for leaks.
Check around for a 93-up if you can, they came with several improved parts.

mine is a 91 turbo.....part 93 (tranny and LSD)...part 94 (tail lites)...

pouring water may not determine t-top leaks......my car is fine if i'm washing it or if its a light rain....but if it raining really hard....passenger side will leak..

Thumbs up

Congrats! I want one too! I got a Solara right now and gona leave that to my wife. Want a fun car to drive and can't think of anything else than the gen 2 MR2!!

How Much did you pay? if you don't mind.

I'd like to know what I'm facing as I want to pay cash.

I do want the 3s-gte and don't want another 5s-fe in the house!!!

anyone got a rough price range I should be expecting for a 91 - 94 3s-gte with 99k - 150k?
So the 93 and up comes with LSD?

if u shop around...u should be able to find 91 turbos ranging anywhere from 3gs USD to 10gs...all depends on condition of car..mods..etc....

not all 93s came with LSD....but it was a factory option....
