i wanted to get some or a subs for my mr2 to help my music enjoyment a little, i was thinking of putting 1 12" or 2 8" subs in the frunk or front trunk, anybody disagree with this idea and why?
Might not hit as hard as it would in a traditional trunk since you have the front firewall to contend with, but I see no reason it won't work. Low frequencies are non directional. Could you port it into the passenger compartment?
Im glad somebody asked this before me. As you know there is very little space in a two seater, so what i did was built a small box to go behind the drivers seat, which holds 2 6x9's. These speakers do sound alot better since my lower 2 speakers in my mr2 were blown, ( i ran the power off those speaker wires for the 69s) I suppose I could put a 10 in the box i made but it wouldnt have optimal air space. What you could do is buy a "shallow" sub to fit behind your seat which uses less air space. But if you end up putting your sub in the front lemme know what your running and how well she bangs, cuz im debating on building a box for my 15" kicker CVR to go in the frunk, since it does seem to be water tight inside there. Spare tire, extra dumb lookin plastic and small brace bar comes out real easy btw
my mr2 is a 1989 supercharged mr2. so very little space at all in the car. i might try the idea of removing the console in the center since i use it so little. i wont know till the summer when i get the car back from florida though. thanks for the ideas, ill update my progress this summer when i can experiment a little bit.
yeah thatd be the only downside i could find, it would be somewhat obnoxious. plus if you moved your elbow back a little on accident you could damage the speaker. ill experiment a little when i get it back this summer and post pics when im done
I was thinking of installing 1 10" behind each seat where you store the T-tops.
Only thing , is when the tops are back there, they would block the speakers. But i guess if it's loud enough, it won't matter.I'm sure others have done this.
Dunno what I'm gonna do.
Looking forward to see what you end up doing.
ill think of something, one of my ideas was to put them behind the seats and find a new place for the t tops, but that may be a challenge. anywho.... ill post pics when i finish and continuously post ideas for some decision making. thanks for the help
People have brought up some good points but i would like to add that i have 2 5x7's in boxes i made behind the seats and they are nice but don't have any real "bump" to them. I currently have a 10" woofer in the bonnet that i made also so that i would have access to the spare wheel, but ive also seen shallow mount subs that get put in the spare tire you just need to flip the tire over and make a new rod to hold it down and then set the speaker in the wheel and have spray foam injected around the speaker to hold it in. Then trim out the foam how you like it and use spray adhesive to cover the foam with whatever material you want. The beauty of it is you can pull the speaker and the foam out in one piece if you need to get to the spare tire and u still have room for groceries lol.
