Changing cam seal tomorrow, am I doing this right?

I'm looking to change one of my cam seals tomorrow. I've NEVER done anything like this before so I'm a bit nervous about it.. But this seal has been bad for quite some time now and I'm tired of waiting for someone to help me, so I'm going to dive into it. I typically don't dive into projects if I don't know what I'm doing, so I'm looking to do this efficiently and correctly.

Here was my plan:

Zip tie my timing belt to both cam gears. Was told to do this so its easier when placing it all back together.

Loosen tensioner.

Slip the belt off the cam gear where I want to replace the seal.

Hold my cam gear in place and take it off. I know not to spin it the wrong way.

Take out old seal, slip on the new.

Put it all back together...

Drive away happily with a fully functioning MR2 and no more oil leak!!

That was my idea at least. It almost seems TOO easy, but I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. Any ways you all would do it different?

Shane

What gen MR2 do you have? If memory serves, it's a 2nd Gen.

It won't be as easy as you make it sound. I doubt you will be able to keep the belt snug enough against the 2 cam gears and crankshaft gear without it slipping a tooth or two.Especially when it comes time to bolt the cam gears back into proper position.

Make sure you bring #1 cylinder to TDC before beginning. Mark the position of cam and belt teeth .Try not to let the bottom of the belt slip off the crankshaft gear.
Whatever you do, don't loose or drop the cam gear pins into the timing cover.
Here's a few pics of the inside. Click on the drop down in the "Service How To's".

Depending if you have the SST. If not, you will have to remove the valve cover so that your can put a wrench on the cam shaft nut to prevent it from turning while you loosen the bolt on the cam sprocket.

For more information, go to
http://www.mrtwo.net/mr2modproject/mr2modproject.htm
On the right drop-down, there is "camseal install"

Sorry, I tend to skip other people's posts unless I am searching for something.
