MR2 Trouble

My 1993 MR2 Turbo is not starting. The battery is dead so I tried to jump it and smoke started coming from the negative terminal and the voltage jumped skyhigh. Also, both positive and negative cables near the battery got very hot.

Any clues????

If the cables are hot, my best guess is that theres a high chance you got a SHORT in your electrical system. (ie. live wire touching a ground)

I had a similar problem, but I never tried to jump it. My car would still turn over, but woudn't start, the problem ended up being a lose igntion coil ground wire. If you've done any wiring yourself, check for broken or damaged wires, or a lose ground wire around your engine compartment. I'd recommend using a a voltmeter to check your circuits for continuity, that's probably the easiest way to find a short. Good luck. Don't too frustrated.

it's prolly water locked, try removing the spark plugs and spin with them out, we told you the head gasket was blown in your other thread....
