hey, i CANNOT decide what to get, a 2nd gen. MR2, or a 3rd Gen supra. they are both nice, and i like em both, but i keep going back and forth of which one i like and need advise. If theres anyone out there who has had them both what did u like better, i really need to know. THANKS!!!
I'd go MR2..... but guess that is the anwser you would expect in the MR2 portion of the forums. This really depends on your circumstances... if you don't have, or don't plan on having a second car with more room, go with the Supra. Once you drive the MR2 its over... just remember, you will never have more than 1 person with you again!!!
I'd get a turbo supra if I could afford one. That's gotta be one of the hardest cars to outrun top end. And they drag nicely too. Not to mention you don't have to remove the engine to do a timing belt or water pump. Dunno for sure that you'd have to on an MR2, but I wouldn't wanna do one.
^^ur talking about mkiv??......sure they are beasts....not even comparable to mr2s....a mk3 supra on the other hand....modded mr2s will fair better againest......
Ya... MKIVs are pretty damn untouchable when they are modded to shit. There are so many out there that are 1000+ hp it is rediculous. Supras are kinda like Japanese muscle cars though... Id rather have something quick and nimble.
ok u convinced me to get an MR2. Now i jsut have to find one. Any 1 know where i can get a pretty good condition, 5 speed MR2 in the New Jersey area for under $4000? doesn't matter if its N/A or turbo, i just want one!!!
if ur gonna get a two...make sure it's a turbo. unless ur plannin on doin' a swap. the n/a 5S-FE just doesn't feel right in a sports car shell. u gotta experience the 3S-GTE. forreals.
well yea i would love the turbo model, but its too expensive, and insurance is too much for a turbo. i'm 17 and need the N/A for the price and lower insurance. if i were to do the swap, how much would that cost about? Thanks
Cost me about $4,500 when all was said and done. That includes the clip (had missing parts), the missing parts, labor and and exhaust system (Greddy SP).
I was missing:
- Intercooler
- Air Flow Meter
- Turbo Axles
- Coil/Ignitor
- Downpipe
- Wiring Harness
... I think that was it.
Probably would have been about $1k less if I would have got a complete clip.

for a first car....an mr2 is not the most practical....most of us all have a second car that we can rely on in winter time...and also when the car is down for repairs/upgrades/etc.......
I was 16... just turning 17 and I did the swap. Gotta agree with MRQ.... without a second car... you will be pretty screwed. I don't even want to know what the insurance would be as a turbo though.... that would suck.
