Choking

I was running against my friend the other night and i notice that the car was choking a bit in 2 and 3 gear. It never happened before but when i shift into 2nd and step on the gas. The car was jerking a little bit. What could be the problem?

I was noticing that when I had an exhaust leak. Not sure if that is your problem though. Worth taking a look at though.

I second the igntion components.

New toyota cap, rotor and wires once a year. New NGK copper plugs every 3000 miles or sooner.

hmmm i've only had the car for about 6 months. Let me bring it to a shop to check for spark timing. I was thinking of that too but to hear it from you guys really help narrow down the possibility. thanks

... just look at the plugs wires. They have a date stamped on them (if they are Toyota). If they are not Toyota, you really want to get them out of there.
