alternator help

i was driving down the road and all of a sudden everything went dim, and out and the car died. It acted like it was the alternator, cuz nothing was holding any kind of charge. I got a new alternator from autozone, a duralast (i know its a piece of crap) and either it doesn't work or soemthing else is bad, cuz the car will run for about 5 minutes and then just slowly dim out to dead. Would ordering an oem part from a dealership fix my problem? or what else could be wrong? thanks

Check the battery. Check alt to battery connection. Either its not charging or battery not taking charge. Check ground wires too. Alt with a missing ground won't do anything.
