JDM oh you got to be kidding!

i Found a JDM hardtop 93MR2. my friend has it and he is selling it. it has 62 thousand miles and a turbo. however it is not legal. It was shipped over here but it was never legalized. Its still right hand drive. He hasnt been able to tell me much he is overseas. This is a nice car. Im considering buying it. However i dont know what it would take to leglalize it. Not only that i am a racer of sorts that is why i want a hardtop. However everytime i see an mr2 do its thing it tends to want to slide straight out then go into the turn. I dont get it. Still should i get this car. I would love a right hand drive car. Im just trying to figure if i would be happy with an MR2. I would love an evo but hey im not that rich yet. Any usefull info would be great. Just tell me if its choice or not and weather or not its a capable racer/drifter. Thanks

drifting in an mr2......

i'm not sure what the laws are in ur state concerning get a RHD legalized to drive..but it prolly won't be cheap or easy to do..ur better off just finding a USDM mr2.....

^ Ya... what the hell? This is like the 3rd or 4th thread where since I have been here where people ask about drifting 2's? The setup is the exact opposite of what you would want for drifting. I'm not sure which is worse... drifting or the bicycle rack.

You can drift a Honda Civic better than an MR2. MR2 owners who claim they can drift are really only losing control.

That said, my car has an "I <3 Drifting" sticker on the front bumper, as a joke to excuse my peeling paint.

i agree however, the only reason i am considering it is because it closely resembles an F-1 setup. Therefore with wieght distribution and all i was wondering if this car is a major contender in racing ability. I need to know if this is the right car for me. Ive drove one and other than the shifter being farther ahead then the wheel. when i took a sharp turn it did its little snap back with the rear wheels. I also know that this is contributied to by the toe problems on the back wheels of earlier models. this was corrected in 1993. i believe that one was a 91.

i'm not sure what u mean by shifter farther ahead???....cuz its rwd???....don't let what u read on the net fool ya....91s handle just as good as 93s do.....some even say its more a drivers car then the 93s...have the best of both worlds like me....get 93 tranny n lsd in ur 91.....

In all my years with cars the only cockpit set up that i found was flawless was the 93+supras and the 95-99 eclipses. i know i dont want to hear it but i have raced in bmws to vipers. Not alot mind you but enough to know what i like. Im not bashing on MR2's. but the gearshift is a little to forward on the console for my taste. But i still need to know is it a superior set up due to the fact that is more of an F-1 Setup. ie the mid-engine rwd. I need to know how it races. If its hard to accomplish control of the car but when you do it outperformes almost anything then great. I love a challange. Ive always wanted to drive rhd. another challange. From my research it should achieve better grip and slip for maximum traction. Kinda like a miata but with a little more tendancy to lose control. That is if my research is correct.

You aren't going to get the BMW or Viper feeling driving an MR2. Driving a '91 MR2 is like driving nothing else...

Even driving my bro's nsx feels like nothing after driving the 2. Not power wise... but handling wise. When you have traction control and all this fancy crap you are going to get in a BMW and such.... your driving is a lot easier. You screw up a corner in a nsx... it pretty much fixes itself.... you screw up a corner in a 2.... you better watch out for any poles.

Just something to keep in mind... this won't be anything like a Viper or BMW.

PS... go test drive one.... that will anwser all of your questions.

theres not all that much impressive about an mkiv supra and its cockpit...not like an mr2 or an nsx where it is a two seater and u feel like its just u and the car.....i love the interior of my car...i turn any way and can see just about every angle outside of the car....turn around in a supra and u'll see the back seats...and that big ass wing blocking half ur rear view....

also the location of the shifter in mr2s are perfect....the center console allows ur to rest ur arm almost flat when ur driving....u don't have to reach to shift gears.....

^ Agreed.... Supras have the worse blind spots EVER! Especially on my MKII with the tiny mirrors. Well... Audi TT's are kinda bad too... but Supras are worse. We aren't really talking blind spots though...


What the hell does the shifter postion have with the driving of the car??? I think the interior of the MR2 is bad ass. If you have the turbo (I think it was only the turbos), you have a flow from the stereo to the bottom of your back window. If you feel the shifter is "too far away"... you can always scoot your seat up.... pretty sure adjustable seats were standard on the MR2. Maybe you are sitting half layed down... so it seems far away.

You might have to give up the thug stance with your left hand at 12 o' clock and your seat all the way back. Doesn't work to well with no back seats.

I do it when I drive my Supra.... but I'm not worried about racing... or... where my stick is.

Basically... I think my point was... where the stick is doesn't really change how the car drives.

^ You should really drive one. I have never driven a Miata... but can tell you that mid-engine rwd is going to be a lot eaiser to spin if you don't know what your doing. Once you spin in a couple of times... you'll get it down. I'm pretty sure most of us spun.. or got close to spinning our cars when we first got them. Especially in the rain.

You are talking about two completely different cars... a Miata is going to be Front Engine RWD... and a MR2 is Mid-engine RWD... if you want to "drift" you car... you're probably better off with a Miata.

Your best bet is to test drive though... that will answer all of your questions more than any words will. Once you drive it your sold...

i have driven one. But thats all i can do is test drive them. Most people here are not very trusting and the places they let you go dont allow for good trials. Thats why im asking you guys. For racing is the MR2 a superior setup.

MR2's are the poor mans Ferrari. Probably one of the cheapest RR cars you can find. This thread is getting kinda redundant. I mean... you are in a MR2 forum... you think we are going to say Miata's are better thans 2's?

Some Miata's are better then 2's, I really like Miatas also.
