new mr2 owner

I just bought a 91 mr2 turbo, black with t-tops.... I bought it for $1300, it runs alright, but could definately use a tune up. I basically bought it because it was cheap and i was looking for my next project car. I have owned a couple boosted honda's, but im new to the toyota scene. I honestly know very little about mr2's, but Im hoping someone can give me some suggestions on where to start.

Basically I want to put some forged rods/pistons, better head gasket, bigger injectors and turbo. Can someone point me in the right direction?

first off...welcome to TN....take a few hours.....and search and read some of the previous threads.....ur questions should be easily answered...but if ur still unsure...ask away.....

u should really change the ignition components as soon as u can...our cars seem to like to destroy them (cap/rotor/wires and plugs).....is the car bone stock??..what kind of mileage is on it now???...

you think i got a good deal on this?? ill post pics later... but its 91 turbo, 148,000 miles, cloth seats, body is straight, paint still glossy, completely stock, good tires, windshield is cracked and will eventually need to be replaced, runs pretty good, although it wasnt as fast as i expected for 200 horses to the flywheel.... but im sure its old and lost some compression, im gonna do a compression and leakdown test on it this weekend and a full tuneup.... but i only paid $1300

thats an awesome deal as long as the body is in good condition...stock turbo is slow ass IMO....get the car a basic tuneup...get urself some sort of fuel cut defender...a manual boost guage...a decent boost guage....turn up the boost to 15 or 16 psi...and then it'll have some zip.....

body is nearly flawless, paint is glossy still

i ordered a dual gauge pillar, boost gauge this morning, and i have an extra lightshow (air/fuel gauge) that im gonna throw in their for now. only other problem that i know of is the driver seat has a smal rip on the bolster, looks like it is just worn out... but i dont plan to keep those seats long. any suggestions on a fuel cut defender? i was reading and saw that you can make your own for 8 bucks with some parts from radio shack, but i would rather just pay the money the risk messing something up trying to do that myself....

i'm using HKS fcd.....alot of ppls have done the DIY FCD w/o any problems.....

I just made that FCD you are talking about. It is sooo easy... and I think easier to install than the HKS from what I read in the installation manuals. On the HKS you have to tap directly into the ecu... with the homemade one.... you just splice right into the pressure sensor. Make sure you have a voltmeter and a bikepump with a pressure gauge on it (or know someone with them) before you start cutting wires. If you are that worried... I would even build you one... its pretty simple.
