2nd/3rd gen MR2

i am shoping for an MR2 and lil confused. hear some people say 3rd gen turbo engien is better then 2nd and not being too familiar iwth this car at all i dont know if thats true.

if there are any problems i shoudl know of that applies to older mr2's please let me know. like any major issues with engine /tranny or electrical problms
and another thing . how well do these engines hold up under abuse with over 100-120k miles....would you say its dangerouns to abuse it or not(taking in to account that it was well maintained and been driven by an average driver)?

thanks for your help in advance

199,000 miles .... and counting
On the way home from Atco Raceway this weekend, Hyde turned over 199,000 miles ... so I am in the final stretch to 200K club.

Hyde's engine officially has over 100 1/4 mile runs, over 20 dyno pulls, 2 major Hill Climb events (one of which was 2.3 miles long!) and a number of Solo II autocross events.

Currently running 23.5 psi of boost.

man...if i remember correctly, ur engine is unopened...meaning bone stock. now that's just SICK. seriously.

anyways, Toyota's have reputation for some of the best and most durable engines around, regardless, if you take care of her, she'll take care of you. that's my two cents.

^ I wouldn't say "bone stock". Stock internals ya... but not bone stock by any means.

And why wouldn't you say bone stock?
Hyde's engine is 100% original.
How much more bone stock do you want?

^^he's referring to all the other mods u have (turbo..fuel...black boxes...etc) so that the "car" is not bone stock....not the engine...

mr2trd's line was "ur engine is unopened...meaning bone stock" ... and that is an accurate statement.

I took ishcoleobo's as a challenge to that.

That is all

Oh no... I wasn't saying your engine was opened. I was just stating that you aren't making 350rwhp with a ct26

aite bois, lemme clarify. Hyde's engine is stock...no reinforced internals or what not. yes, it's got mods, but the engine itself is "unopened" meaning no upgraded pistons, rods, bearing, no stroke kits, etc...all OEM- which, IMo, is super impressive. keep up the awesome work, yo.

no. anyways, why would you want the NA tranny. It wouldn't last long under the 3S power. If u want 3S engine get the appropriate tranny.
