Auto tranny issues

i have a 92 5sfe mr2 automatic just bought it , the guy put a new tranny in it but after it messed up he thought it was a sensor ,, i cranked it up and when it gets to 2 grand it acts like its rev limiting but after i put it in 2nd and put it up to 35mph i put it in drive and it smoothes out and drives fine i think its the comp. for the tranny but if anyones run into this problem before or has and idea i think it would save me some money ,,, thanks
