Question 20Valve 4age silver top, need piggyback ecu or will blacktop ecu be necessary?

Hey guys hows it going. I own a 1987 toyota mr2 with a 20 valve silver top in it. I would like to remove the afm and air intake system so i can chuck on individual filters on each throttle body. I was wondering if a piggyback ecu would make it possible to remove the afm or do i need to buy a complete aftermarket ECU? Thanks for your help and if anyone has a piggyback, i am very interested to buy.

I think a Megasquirt would allow you to run a MAP.

VERY INTERESTING!!!! I study microelectronic engineering at university and we program the motorola hc12 range of micorprocessors to attend to similar problems. It has never entered my mind due to my lack of knowledge in the automotive electronics area. Looks like a lot of work but would be a lot cheaper than an aftermarket ecu.

however, the 20 valve has VVT-i which ive heard is unable to be controlled unless you have an expensive MOTEC or such ECU. Im just curious if i can get a piggyback so i can take off the afm....thats all
