3S-GE engine with 5S-FE cranshaft and connecting rods?

Hi all!

Iīm from Sweden.. may explain my weird grammatical errors and spelling

I have a question..

I own a ST182 with a 3S-GE engine (standard in europe versions).
Now I want to get a little more hp out of the engine without converting it to a turbo aspirated enginge. Our "goverment" donīt allow that and a turbo is a quite obvious modification if I am pulled over by a police..

Iīve read some thread about putting a 3S-GTE top on a 5S-FE block.. But Iīd rather skip the block.
Do you think the 5S-FE crankshaft and connecting rods fits the 3S-GE engine block and pistons? I assume that a will gain a little enginevolume with the 5S-FE cranskhaft.
And.. is it worth the effort?
Is there any problems involved.. the 3S-GE engine has the same bore as stroke.. "square" engine (?). But the 5S-FE isnīt..
How will my 3S-GE camshafts work when I get a longer stroke..and the engine isnīt a "square" configuration anymore?

Many questions, hopefully someone has som answers

/Mikael

Greetings,

First of all, please note that if you take the turbo off of a 3SGTE engine, you will have less hp than a NA 5SFE or a 3SGE.

There is little difference between the 3SGTE and 5SFE block...
The 3SGTE has oil jets, and a detonation sensor.
The 91-92 5SFE block does not.

You can put a 3SGTE/3SGE head on a 5SFE block, but the computer needs to follow the head.
The blocks are drilled to work in all applications, and the head gaskets determine which head is to be used.
The internal block parts of the 5SFE would not need to be changed, if you are not going to turbo charge the engine.

I would consider upgrading a few components in this order.

01) Port and polish the head.
02) Upgrade the fresh air intake.
03) Upgrade the exhaust.
04) Knife edge the crank.

I would not consider exchanging a 3SGE head for a 3SGTE head. It may even decrease your HP.

Hope this helps,

It should all fit inside the 5SFE block, the 3SGE and 5SFE blocks are the same, you'd need to bore out the block slightly to accomodate the stock pistons and you *may* have trouble with the piston tops clearing the valves. You could always go custom pistons or import a 5SFE bottom end, get some high comp pistons and swap your 3S head onto the 5S bottom end.

5SFE
Bore = 87.12
Stroke = 90.93

3SGE
Bore = 86
Stroke = 86

Build the 3S-GE internal with P&P and high compression piston. Police won't take the engine apart.

I have a 3S-GE enginge in my celica st182 (from 1990). Engine is rated at 156hp. About a 10hp increase since the earlier 3S-GE engine. Have a MAP bases fuelinjection system and a different intake system, combined with a better extractor exhaust system.

I had no planes to remove any non existing turbo on my engine, because I havenīt got any Or.. ok, I have a turbo at the moment, a homemade "aftermarket" kit u could say.. But, I dont want it there fore reasons I mentioned earlier.

I want to get more hp out of my engine without turbo.
So, increasing the engine displacement with the 5S-FE internal components in my 3S-GE enginge seemed to be a fun project.

Imagine I would loose som top rpm, but gain more torque at the bottom rpm scale with a bigger displacement ant considering the engine wouldnīt be a "square" engine anymore..?
