I just got a MR2....it got some looks stuff in it..but no performance.....
I was planning to save up money to drop a new motor in there...i was considering the *special edition motor from japan(265hp)*
But its mad expensive. (but if it comes down to it..i'll get it)
But would da normal sw20 motor b able to push 300hp if i built up the internals and put about 15-20 lbs of boost on da turbo....or am i jus better off gettin da special edition motor?
and if i do get da new motors..i would have to change da tranny rah?
*im still trying to learn shit about MR2 so im sorry if i sound like a retard*
what company makes da best stuff for Toyota MR2s??
Alright first off, which generation, im guessing 2nd gen SW20/21 and nice purchase. There is no such thing as a "special edition motor" from japan with 265hp. The only one that produces anywhere near that is the gen 3 3sgte from japan producing 245hp. And yes that is like 3500 for the clip itself. A normal sw20 motor? Just say 3sgte . And it can push 300whp on stock internals but with upgraded fuel/air/spark stuff. IF you have an NA, judging by how many questions you are asking and such, im assuming you have no"real" mr2 backround, right? I would suggest going with a halfcut, i did and it came with everything. I live by chicago illinois andi got one from cali for 2100 shipped. It was a gen 2 3sgte half cut with an un cut main harness and everything was there including some performance parts as well. I think there are a few companys that make nice parts for mr2's, like TRD(just the feeling of a toyota genuine product makes me feel so much better), blitz, apexi, there are a ton out there. If you have anymore questions, please dont talk like a gangsta fool dawg, it was kinda hard to read haha, but if you have any questions just ask. And also, register to www.mr2oc.com, its a strictly mr2 forum and a lot of info is there, you just have to SEARCH for it.

there is a 3S-GTE from Japan pushing 260 hp, it's in one of the models the Caldina, but that is AWD, and mounted to an AWD Auto transmission, so i'm guessing that cant really be an option, seeing as how little you know about MR2s in general...
What year is it..?
if it has foglights in the front, then it's a Turbo...
if it doesnt, and it's a 91, it can still be a turbo; you have to check the engine lid, if the slots are flat, then it's an NA, with a 130 hp(or so) 2.2L 5SFE, also found in Camrys, Solaras and Celicas...
if the slots are raised, then you have the 200hp Turbo 3S-GTE...
anyway, do more research, good luck, and congratulations on your purchase..

Hey, i never said there wasnt a 3sgte that didnt have the option of 260. All i meant was that there was no special edition motor from japan with 265hp. And i believe the 4th gen 3sgte can be mounted in an mr2 seeing its a 3S block, the mounts will be the same. You will need a half cut for sure, and definately a s54 or e153 tranny(i think those are what they are called). And the 5sfe found in solaras are the i think 5th generation 5sfe with i think 135hp. If its a 91 then yes it has appx 120hp. Post some pictures blazin azn.

Well i don't have mr2 background is b/c i focused more on Hondas n stuff b/c those were alot more affordable. But i found a guy sellin his MR2 for 3800 i talked him down to 3500. MR2s were my dream car that i couldn't think of affording on my salary....but this one was like O_O whoa! i can get it! ..lol
itz a 91' N/A (i doubt its a turbo b/c of the low price)
107k miles (thats why i wanna swap the motor)
Custom red paint ( i'll prolly end up painting black or another color)
18' rims ( i wanna sell and get 16')(black rims with chrome lips
i ripped out the subs, amp, head unit, TV visor im trying to sell those and also the rims
it has a cracked vader kit....which i wanna replace with a border kit or something less extreme lookin
Ok, i see what your saying, that webcite is garbage. Im 99% sure they dont have a special edition gen 3 engine with 265. And 107k miles isnt bad because those enignes can go another 200k more. To post a picture just get a digital camer, take a couple shots of the car, then upload it to the computer then go to www.we-todd-did-racing.com and register and then upload the pictures from the computer to the webcite. Then just click on the picture and copy the link it gives you and post the link here. Make sense haha.

If it's an N/A, you might as well swap in a V6 (3VZ-FE or 1MZ-FE). The torque curve is sooo nice on those. You can use the S54 from your N/A, but you'd be eating up tires with the 4.176 ratio in the transmission. The reason I recommend the V6 is cuz: 1) It's a federalized engine, 2) the 1MZ has an available supercharger, and 3) the power is insane (torque is much nicer).
Anyway, congrats.
The 260ps 3S-GTE from the Caldina will most likely work, but it's only recommended if you already have a turbo model, since some things are most likely different.
91mr2quickNA, i dont think a v6 swap would be the best option for him. IT will run him like 5k-6k for decent parts. Lowest recorded parts list for everything was i think 4500. I got my 2nd gen 3sgte JDM rear half cut from venus-auto for 2100 shipped from cali to chicago, illinois. And i have nothing but good news to say about them. I highly recemmend going with a 2nd gen 3sgte becuase the parts are readily available and it is such a bullet proof motor and its common and everything. The v6 is getting kinda commin but there are still unknown stuff about it.

The site that was linked to with the engine says "gen 3" over the image ... that would be a 245 HP engine.

Razo, that is not accurate. That is a common misconception with the MR2.
There are turbos without fogs and plenty of NAs with fogs ... all from the factory.
