UK MR2 Turbo - Intermittent Misfire

Hi,

I've got a misfire that only happens on occasions, usually after a long motorway journey and it coughs and splutters and stops revving past 2000 revs, without doing much, other than not revving the engine, lots of swearing and cursing, it seems to clear, for sure it clears if I stop the engine for a few hours and then drive off. It sometimes happens when the engine is cold and clears after 5 minutes or so.

I've changed:-

Plugs
Plug Leads
Distributor Cap

What next? Any ideas? It also seems a big laggy when you put your foot down from 2.5k><3.5 so would it be worth fitting a dump valve? I'm not into modding so don't know much. What else do you need to know?

Thanks for any and all help given in clearing this issue

Cheers,
Carl.

PS It's for sale if anyone is interested (due to the above issue it's pigged me off) 1993 K MR2 Turbo 71000 miles, very good condition, I'll try to get some photos, I'd like £3995ovno but if you want the stereo and the iPod docking kit, I want an additional £200 on the sale price. I am based Bury, Manchester, UK.

You did cap, wires and plugs .... what about the rotor inside the cap?
What plugs did you use and what gap?

Thanks for replying so quick.

I didn't change the rotor (getting a price for it as I type this message) and I've been told by my mate that the plugs are gapped to 1.0

Hope that's ok!

Cheers,
Carl.

The gap is 1.0 in what measurement?

It should be about .032" (inches)

I had Platinum NGK plugs fitted and the gap was set at the factory (apparently!). I've got a rotor on order and will try that!

Cheers,
Carl.

Hi,

So! I changed the rotor arm and it seems that my misfire has gone away!

Hope this helps someone else!
