When I attempt to start my MR2. I've press down the clutch, try to start, and the car does not start. It makes a clicking or ticking sound. After the 2nd or 3 time of trying it starts. My 1st thought is the alternator is bad. Has anyone experience this problem.
what year? there is a variety a things it could be. battery, battery cables(if bad will not charge and discharge properly),starter, ignition switch, there is also a switch that is depressed by clutch pedal that must be fully depressed to begin starter. your alternator recharges your battery and supplies eletricity for the whole car while it spins and only when it spins. the most likely culprits are either starter or battery and /or battery cables. begin your search there...hope this helps
Take your car to pep boys, they run, for 19 dollars, a full check on your starter, battery, alternator, and the battery connector cables and tell ya which part of your electrical system is slacking, and they can usually fix the problem on the spot, depending on what it may be... it might be a lil extra.
I love that I got the energizer battery from them because it comes w/ a lifetime gaurantee/warranty including replacements...
I have '91 3sgte and I haven't seen that problem. I hope it's not down the road anytime soon. I have 140,000 miles on the car but new long block, pistons, rings, etc @125,000 miles plus new TRD wires, cap & rotor and stock igniter. was using iridium plugs but switched to NGK coppers gapped @.030 since I began reading this forum...It also doesn't get too cold here in SE ARK. HHHMMM?
look in the tech stickies for my starter repair thread, the parts are available from me, your local toyota dealer, or your nearest starter repair shop.
