i have an mr2 turbo with a rebuilt motor and a seemingly fresh upgraded CT26 turbo, TRd Wires, Plugs, intake, exhaust and gutted CAT (**and some other goodies**). I just dont know if this is normal but, upon acceleration and release of the pedal (just when boost kicks in) the car jolts or stumbles (like its going into seizure or something) is this normal?
Also I feel that this turbo spools up quick but dies just as quick at top end. im not too sure if that is common with this turbo. i am running about 6 to 8 lbs of boost
You should be able to boost much higher than 8 psi ... the car runs 7 ~ 11.8 psi from the factory.
What BOV is on your car? ... that could be causing your off-acceleration stumbling.
The CT26 is a fast spooling, low rpm turbo. It runs out of breathe around 5500 rpms.
If you want something that pulls till redline, you are going to need a bigger turbo.
I actually have an HKS BOV. As far as boost is concerned, when I top out 3rd thats pretty much where it ends up. I guess after the rebuild, that was where the boost was set to. Although the car has about 39K on the motor and turbo, I believe it may still be running on its original IC (172XX miles) could that be a contributory factor to low boost or semi sluggish performance?
Im actually not looking for an insane HP on the car. I just want it reliable for road racing. I figure Ill keep that same turbo for the track. Low rpm quick spooling turbo may be the best route. (then again any pearls of wisdom would help)
For track time, you may want to look into the CT20B.
It is another factory turbo that came on later year MR2s in Japan.
Similar spool to the CT26, but it will pull to redline.
At 170K+ I would check out your motor mounts.
I would also recommend getting new cap and rotor to go with your new wires and plugs. What plugs did you sue and what gap?
hey jekylandhyde i have a question. I have a motor rebuilt 40k ago with a 52 intake side and a normal compressor side but rebuilt also 40k ago. The engine also has a ported cylinder head. Now if i mate this 3sgte with a S54 tranny and at 15-18psi what do you think i should hit in the 1/4 mile??

There is no way that I could predict an ET based on that info.
Regardless, I never give ET predictions ... they are more or less pointless because there are way too many factors: elevation, temperature, tires, clutch, actual power output of the engine and drivin ability. There are many more ... too many more.
Regardless, just having word ignition wires could rob as much as 30 rwhp.
I am very consufed by this:
"52 intake side and a normal compressor side "
The compressor side of the turbocharger is the intake side.
The turbine side is the exhaust side.
sorry i just ran 17 laps in 12 minutes for gym . sorry sorry sorry. Its a 52 trim compressor side and a stock turbine side in the ct26 housing. ITs my SIG picture.

I would not recommend going over 15 psi with th CT26 ~ even an upgraded one.
You will most likely be under 240 rwhp which may results in a low 13 second pass with good driving and good consitions
ill definitely look into it. i bought the car with the existing BOV. ill try to find out which one it specifically is. I will definitely look into that CT20B. i found one online (Rebuilt) for $950.00. thanks for your response. ill check out all those that you mentioned.
Any MR2 Specialty shops in NY /NJ/ PA area. I see that you are from Reading PA

My mechanic does an awesome job ... he is located just inside the PA border off Interstate 78.
If you check out the NY/NJ/PA forum on the MR2 board, there is a sticky there of other shops.
