my mr2 just sputtered to death

i was driving down the road, and all of a sudden my car started to sputter a lttle bit, then it spuddered more, and i tried to just give it some gas nad it just sputtered and then just died. I pulled over and it wouldnt start at all, it seemed that the engine didnt even want to turn over. After tryin to get it to start a few times, it just died and the whole car became lifeless. The alternator is brand new, i highly doubt this could be the cause. Im thinking maybe it was detonation, or something because it was knocking a little bit when i started it this morning. I have no idea on what it could be. The engine has about 210000 miles on it.

I would have the chargin system checked ... I suspect there was a reason you just put a new alternator in ... maybe your cables are bad?

im honestly not sure what it is, ill pull the whole ignition system apart tomarrow and check it out becasue it was sputtering so badly, ill also check the battery, alternator ... ect on the charging system and see if i can find anything, but it was really weird the way it just all of a sudden died, all my alternators that went out before the car slowly faded out until it was dead. This one was instant

Sounds like you ran out of fuel or the fuel pump went out. Also remember that just bec a part is new or reman, does not mean it won't fail. Do all the checks as you would any no start condition and you'll find your problem.

update on the car, i finially found out what it was after over looking it. I feel like a major idiot but what happened was that the rotor inside broke off and lodged itself in the distributer cap and the plastic got so hot that it just melted and was like permanently sealed together lol. thank god for the parts car. Shes running storong again. Ill Post a few pics if i get a chance becasue this cap is utterly destroyed.

Thats crazy, I was gonna suggest checking how well your battery cables were connected, because same thing happened to me and that was my problem. Only I have a Turbo
