My 91 turbo stutters after 5500 rpm, as though it isn't getting enough fuel. i haven't replaced the fuel filter yet, and am going to soon. But i looked through the bgb and couldn't find how to replace it, and i was vague on the location. Any quick comments to help me find/change it? Thanks.
do u have an exhaust leak??......common problem with 91 manifolds warping and causing a leak.....do u hear a ticking sound coming from the engine bay???.....can you hit full boost??.....
I concure with MRQTurbo.. My '91 made the ticking noise he described.and it was a warped manifold. couldn't hit full boost and it would sputter on the high end like it was starving for fuel or air. My tech friend picked up on it right away. it was about $300.00 for new stock manifold
I just got the oil replaced after 1k rpm, and the gear oil changed. Seems to be pulling hard now. I took it to Toyota for the oil this time, instead of one of those quickie places. Spark plugs are NGK coppers at .028" gap. Everything else is Toyota. I don't have an aftermarket boost gauge yet, but the needle on the stock boost gauge will go past the "+" sign, so i assume it is boosting just fine. I heard about the manifold problem, and am hoping it's not that. I don't haven't noticed a ticking noise. I haven't really been listening for it, but I haven't noticed any noises out of the ordinary.
I gapped the plugs so small because I have a boost controller, gauge and FCD waiting to be put on. According to the power primer, when boosting over stock it recommends .028 gap.
