Unhappy Reversing problem?

Hello, my car dies when I try to shift into reverse. The rpm's will drop and the car will stall. Afterward, I have to pump the gas pedal a couple of times for it to start again. Can't start it in reverse either. Sometimes though, shifter will go in reverse and car acts normal. HELP!

Vehicle is a 92 non-turbo 5 speed. has about 80k mi and is otherwise in tip top condition. Car will start fine, but when I try to shift in reverse to back out of the driveway it will stall out. Sometimes what I have to do is rev the engine high, drop the shifter in reverse and let the clutch go. This gives me the momentum to back out, but it still dies.
